Leg. psychologist – Psychologist is a protected title, which means that you must have completed a psychology degree to be able to use it as your professional title. Legitimation means that society guarantees that the person has completed an approved education, undergone practical training and is approved for professional practice. A person without the approval of the National Board of Health and Welfare may not call himself a psychologist in the fields of health and medical care. Nor may the word there be used as a morpheme in newly formed words without this identification. Other psychologists’ activities, or combinations with the word psychologist, are unregulated outside this area. A Leg. psychologist should not be confused with Leg. psychotherapist, which is further training in psychotherapy without requirements for psychology training. At the same time, the psychologist has no right to work in healthcare in professional roles that require a psychotherapist degree.
